Families experiencing homelessness in Volusia County may face a day-to-day struggle to find a place to stay together -- renting cheap motel rooms by the night or week, crowding in with friends or relatives on their floors and sofas, parking the car in dark, secluded spots then taking turns sleeping so someone can keep watch. The stress, insecurity and potential danger can leave families at risk of falling apart or being torn apart.
Family Renew Community houses homeless families with children together in modest apartments for six months or more while the adults -- whether couples, single mothers, single fathers or custodial grandparents -- work toward financial stability and permanent housing.
