'It was pretty simple ...'

When Bill Partington found out Family Renew Community had started a car donation program, he thought about the old clunker he planned to get rid of. Soon, he no longer had the useless vehicle on his hands, and Family Renew received $230 to help families with children lift themselves out of homelessness.

“I don’t think I would have gotten any more if I had sold it to junk yard,” says Bill, a longtime Family Renew supporter and owner of Bill Partington’s AHC Safe & Lock in Ormond Beach.

Bill was the first donor to take advantage of Family Renew Community’s new partnership with Cars for Charity, a Denver, Colo.-based nonprofit organization that facilitates vehicle donations for respected charities throughout the country. Donors can  follow the link to our online donation wizard or call (888) 755-5435. (If you call, make sure to specify Family Renew Community is your charity.) Once you provide your vehicle information and contact information, pick up with be scheduled.

We gratefully accept almost all cars and trucks, in nearly any condition. We also accept motorcycles, recreational vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, farm or construction equipment -- even planes!

About half of cars donated through Cars for Charity are sold to licensed dealers at wholesale auctions and are reused for transportation. The other half are typically transported to auto salvage yards where all reusable car parts, batteries, tires and fluids are removed. Vehicles that can be recycled are crushed, shredded and recycled into steel.

Recycling cars keeps a huge amount of steel out of landfills.

Family Renew receives funds for each donated vehicle, although a car sold at auction generally generates more revenue than one that is recycled. Every donation makes a difference for the homeless families we serve.

According to car donor and former Family Renew board member Bill, the process was easy.

“It was pretty simple for me. I had all the documentation that I needed on hand,” he says. “Some might need assistance but they offer assistance online from the Cars for Charity people.”
