POSITION SUMMARY:

The Thrift Store is one of the key fund-raising components for the financial support of Family Renew Community.  It also serves as a resource for the furnishing for FRC apartments.  The Manager's position is a highly responsible position which provides oversight on all matters pertaining to the thrift store(s) that are assigned under the supervision of the Manager.  The Thrift Store Manager shall serve as the first line of supervision in Thrift Store operations.  Responsibilities includes managing and maintaining staffing within approved budgets, volunteer recruitment and retention, superior customer service, merchandising, store operations and maintenance, as well as attaining sales goals and managing finances within approved budgets, following all financial policies, procedures and processes.  Works closely with FRC program staff to facilitate timely turnaround time for program apartments being readied for occupancy on all FRC campuses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ensures the establishment of standards to assure efficient and effective operations, superior customer service, a neat and attractive store, stocked with quality merchandise at preferable pricing.   Politely, and with a strong customer service approach, responds to all issues, inquiries, problems and questions.  Gives information about program & services when asked.  Is able to step in and cover any job or function when needed. 

Recruits, retains, schedules and manages all paid Thrift Store staff within approved budget.  Works collaboratively with the Assistant Manager on all facets of the Thrift Store.  Ensures the correct mix of paid staff and volunteers to maximize efficiency and reduce overall cost and expense.  Ensures that staff operate within their approved job descriptions and follow and adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.  Be willing to work hours necessary to keep the store(s) staffed to capacity as needed.

Develops and manages an effective volunteer recruitment and retention strategy to maximize the use of volunteers.  Recruits, trains, retains and coordinates volunteers.  Maintains a record of the names, address, hours of service and telephone number of all thrift store volunteers.  Provides training designed to assure that all volunteers understand their duties and responsibilities as representatives of Family Renew Community.  Resolves volunteer questions and problems fairly, quickly and efficiently.

Oversees the solicitation, collection, and receipt of merchandise donations, the scheduling of donation pickups, the training of associates in good customer relations and merchandising.   Solicits quality donations from area businesses and residences.  Displays merchandise in a customer friendly and attractive manner.  Develops an effective pricing strategy that maximizes the sale of goods to enhance revenue.  Working collaboratively with the Director of Development to promote and advertise the store(s) in print, radio, television and internet within the approved budget.

Works with the FRC Accountant to maintain quality financial records of revenues, expenses, cash donations, daily receipts, bank reconciliations, etc.  Adheres to all organizational financial policies, procedures and processes.  Be proficient in cash register operations, cashiering, closing out and deposits.  Examining all incoming thrift store bills for accuracy and insuring that they are paid in a timely manner.   Verifies all services and expenses performed on behalf of the thrift store are appropriate to be paid.   Obtains approval for all expenses according to organizational policies and procedures. 

Follow up on maintenance needs promptly and efficiently with FRC vendors, when approved.  Maintains property in accordance with lease agreement.  Notifies and discusses with the maintenance staff all maintenance projects and needs.  Assure the store is maintained in a safe and clean condition.  Maintain adequate supplies for staff and volunteers to work efficiently.  Responds to all safety and security concerns, identifies and takes appropriate corrective action when necessary.

Maintains strict confidentiality of operations and records as directed.  Performs other related duties as assigned. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED

General Office Equipment.

Proficiency in working with cash registers and must be able to trouble shoot problems and provide training and oversight to all Thrift Store personnel.

Proficiency in office software including Microsoft Office, Donor Perfect and other reporting systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education development (GED) certificate required and previous experience relevant to the position and with the skills necessary to successfully fulfill the job requirements.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Ability to meet attendance requirements

Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations and to operate and train others on the use of cash registers.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Duties are usually performed during periods of sitting, standing or walking.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a normal thrift store environment where there may be some physical discomforts associated with lifting, changes in situations, discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
