Would-be bride treats strangers

We like to keep an eye out for news from around the country about people who, like Family Renew Community's supporters, have a heart for helping homeless families with children.

This story from IndyStar caught our eye this week.

A young couple whose dream wedding had been in the making for two years called it off with little more than a week to go, leaving both with "broken hearts and a nonrefundable contract for a venue and a plated dinner for 170 guests Saturday night at the Ritz Charles" in Carmel, Indiana.

Rather than walking away from entire $30,000 extravaganza, the would-be bride, with her ex-fiance's blessing, changed the purpose and guest list for the party. She started calling area homeless shelters, including the Dayspring Center for homeless families, and inviting them to dinner this Saturday.

"I was so touched that Sarah had taken a painful experience and turned it into a joyful one for families in need," Cheryl Herzog, the center's development director, told the news organization. "I suspect having the chance to experience a delicious meal with your family in a beautiful space like the Ritz Charles will be very special for them."
