Our little Nora finished the last school year on top of the world and is looking forward to starting a new one — though she’s not thrilled about Volusia County Schools’ new uniform policy.
Nora spent much of the 2015-2016 school year as a resident of Family Renew Community, along with her father, Howard. Their stay with us gave Nora a safe and stable place to call home so she could focus on her schoolwork while her father focused on lifting his family out of homelessness. They moved into permanent housing about three months ago, but have been keeping in touch. The pleased papa let us know recently that Nora earned awards for Math, Good Conduct and made the Honor Roll!
The sky’s the limit for the new school year, which begins Monday, Aug. 15. And about that new uniform policy — all students must wear collared shirts in white or other school-specific colors, paired with navy blue, black or tan bottoms. But they are allowed to accessorize, and were quite sure Nora — who clearly has a sense of style — will rock it.
