POSITION SUMMARY:
Family Renew Community, Inc. is a not-for-profit ministry which serves the needs of homeless families with children. We endeavor to assist families attain self-sufficiency through supportive services, intensive case management and education helping families develop basic life skills, job development skills, financial stability and ultimately securing permanent housing.
The Accountant is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports for Family Renew Community, Inc. Provides support to the Executive Director, Development Director and the Board of Trustees through bookkeeping, payroll, banking and reporting services. Maintains all necessary and appropriate records, files and processes to ensure the smooth and compliant financial operation of the organization, focusing on accuracy and transparency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs Bookkeeping duties including, but not limited to; Prepare General Ledger and supporting accounts within applicable electronic accounting system. Prepare Accounts Payable files and process checks for signing and distribution. Record all revenues including sales reconciliations from the thrift stores, donations, grants and other funding sources. Reconcile all accounts and prepare financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Revenue and Expenditure, Performance to Budget Variance and Cash Flow. Maintain financial records and filing. Follow up with Family Renew Community’s accounts payable invoices as needed. Ensure that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures. Prepares and maintains grant accounting, documentation, and invoices to ensure grant reporting, compliance and grant reimbursement and payment.
Performs Payroll duties including, but not limited to; Administer group benefits and prepare bi-weekly payroll files as needed for approval by the Executive Director. Maintain records for taxable benefits. Monitor remittances to Receiver-General for source deductions. Execute bi-weekly payroll activities using a 3rd party payroll service provider.
Performs Banking duties including, but not limited to; Reconcile bank accounts monthly. Monitor cash flow and cash management. Maintains strong relationship with all banking and financial institutions affiliated with Family Renew Community, Inc.
Performs Reporting duties including, but not limited to: Prepare all monthly required Financial Statements such as financial statements, budget performance, and interim financial reporting. Prepare financial grant reporting and confirmations and monitor reporting requirements. Prepare financial information and year end information for the external audit preparation. Prepare and analyze the monthly budget/forecast to actual variance reports per program and department. Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses. Serves as liaison to approved outside audit firms to assist with the preparation for the yearly audit and annual audit.
Maintains FRC personnel files in concert with the Administrative Assistant. Stores all staff employment records according to acceptable protocols. Ensures the confidentiality of all personnel records including but not limited to background checks and alcohol and Drug Screening.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED
General Office Equipment
Proficiency in office software including Microsoft Office, Donor Perfect, ADP Systems, Clover Software and applicable Accounting software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Degree or diploma in business or administration and/or certification in bookkeeping or financial
management
Minimum 5 years recent related financial experience, ideally with a not-for-profit organization

Knowledge of practices and principles of accounting and /or financial management.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Ability to meet attendance requirements
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and be proficient in financial management.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
