Many of you have kindly asked what would help the homeless families with children staying in Family Renew Community’s 32 apartments get through the current public health crisis, and have generously offered to bring it to them. It’s been breaking our hearts that we can’t let you in.

The spread of the new coronavirus has forced us to restrict access to our residential campuses in Holly Hill, Daytona Beach and DeLand for the protection of our homeless families, staff and would-be visitors. Starting Wednesday, April 15, we will gratefully collect essential items for our families at an off-site location. Our COVID-19 Relief Donation Drop will be open outside our Secret Attic Thrift Store, 32 Ocean Shore Blvd., Ormond Beach, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday (April 16) and Friday (April 17) and other times by appointment.

Donors may place their items directly into the store van for daily delivery to our families. Staff and volunteers wearing personal protective equipment will be on hand to sanitize the vehicle and assist as needed. The thrift store is closed, and will remain so for the duration of the state’s Safer-at-Home order.

Parents in more than half of our resident families have lost their jobs or had their hours cut way back. Virtually none of the families were able to stock up on essentials that are now scarce on store shelves. This leaves our residents with a variety of immediate needs, from food to products for personal and baby care, virus protection, household sanitation and stress reduction.
